Sorry for the delay in answering.

This is an interesting shot. The focus is very soft, but I suspect that is from being so close to the subject. This assignment is all about lighting and the background. Try using a some black velvet, or white poster board (matte/dull side), and let some of it show. Imagine that you are shooting this for an advertisement (the hot-dog on the "New York Yankees"entry in your blog is an excellent example.)

I agree that the focus is very soft, but you may have done that on purpose with the camera or in processing with an editing program. For some subjects that may not work well, but I think you can get away with it here. The soft focus might work better if you used a darker background like Charlie mentioned.

Your composition is right on and I like the way you arranged the garlic bulbs with the different variations in color.

Another job well done. Thanks for sharing them with us.
